Cathedral Rock, Sedona, AZ...

While we were staying at the Thousand Trails park in Cottonwood, AZ, Vaughn and the boys spent an afternoon hiking with our new fulltime friends the Lundys. They had hiked Cathedral Rock before, and thought that Vaughn and some of the kids would enjoy it too.
Vaughn took the boys (Beth wanted to stay home that day), and they packed a lunch and water bottles and drove over near Sedona.
It is beautiful country...
The climb is not a long one, but it is a 600 foot vertical gain.
The view from just a little ways up was worth the trip!

The guys had a great time hiking with our new(in person)/old(web) friends!
The area is so beautiful!
Vaughn said I wouldn't have liked it. He was right...
~I don't do cliffs well. I am much better about it now that we have traveled so much, but when we first started traveling and we were driving down the Oregon coast, where the road sometimes is right along sea cliffs or even is supported out over the ocean itself, Emma would, from her carseat back a few rows,"Don't Look Down Mom!!! Don't Look Down!!!" - and it's kind of a family joke now; whenever we are driving along a steep embankment, someone will always say,"don't look down mom, don't look down'
They would have been saying it non-stop had I gone on this hike!
YIKES! I am OK with, even love, the pictures, but in person, not.so.much...
Allen gave the guys a crash course in Geo-caching. Now of course we have to dive into that (thanks a lot Allen!) - thank goodness we already have the GPSs.
They also found some honeycombs on the ground then got to looking around better and found rows of honeycombs in the crevices of the rocks. The boys all chewed some of the honeycomb, but the bees had cleaned out all the honey so it just tasted like plain wax.
There were others on the mountain too.
Only they were climbing these spires (HAD climbed - they were at the top!)!
They did a big loop going up one path and coming down by way of another.
Wow! The views from the top are stunning....
The guys really enjoyed their time hiking with the Lundy family. It's nice to connect with others that enjoy some of the same activities that we do - they really like to hike and kayak too!
Sedona is one place that we would love to come back to and explore some more.
We didn't get to see as much of it as we would have liked to, but we were simply having too much fun with the 4 other families that were also in the park! We loved the Sedona area, and are sure to be back tho!!!

  1. Those pics are just beautiful!!!!! I do not do heights well wither. We have a class A, so when we drive over places that I do not like...I go to the back, haha.
We do geo cacheing and LOVE it!!! IT is another fun thing on the road.
Hope you have a great weekend!!
